Individual interviews are typically between one interviewer and one candidate, and the interview usually lasts anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. This type of interview can take place in person, via a video conference, or by phone.
An individual interview may have a more casual feel than a panel or group interview. Because there are no group dynamics, the interviewer and the candidate can give each other their full attention.
Examples:
Individual interviews are the most traditional interviews. If a candidate will be working as an assistant to a member of the leadership team, the candidate may attend an individual interview with their prospective supervisor. The format will allow both the interviewer and the candidate to ask questions and discuss topics in greater detail.
Individual interviews are also commonly used to hire for entry-level jobs. For example, when a young person in high school applies for their first job at a fast-food restaurant, the interview will probably be an individual interview.
